Adult Hula Notes - October

This month we will focus on the Valley Isle, Maui, and will learn two mele. One, a hula standard, is ʻAhulili which speaks of a jealous lover. Some of our dancers requested a song that you could get up and dance at a lūʻau or gathering - whenever those can happen again. This mele, featured on Genoa Keawe’s “Party Hulas” should do the trick!

The second mele is less commonly sung out and about but a beautiful song, nonetheless. Ka Makani Kaʻili Aloha is a heart wrenching story of another couple from the island of Maui. It seems that love doesnʻt always come easy on the Valley Isle!
