Kumu Kanoe will share resources on the Ipu, its use and significance in the hula, introduce participants to techniques for successfully playing the basic beats, and help to apply these techniques to a hula kaʻi (entrance chant) and also a hula kuʻi (modern mele).

It is recommended that students have an ipu heke or ipu heke ʻole (double or single gourd) to participate in this ZOOM workshop however you may improvise with other found materials or purchase an ipu from our recommended retailer: Aloha Hula Suppy
