Ua Nani o Nuʻuanu / Aloha Koʻolau

In the month of January we honor our aliʻi and although the title of this mele suggests that it is a mele wahi pana - it honors Kamehameha IV - Alexander Kalanikualiholiho. This mele was set to music by Eddie Kamae and we love the Mākaha Sons version of this song which pairs with the uptempo mele by Alice Namakelua, “Aloha Koʻolau”. There are 6 verses to each song so we will spend the first two weeks of the month on “Ua Nani o Nuʻuanu” and finish the month with “Aloha Koʻolau” and put them both together in the final week!
